Cody does not have a skater in our organization but for the last few years has organized, managed and been a director of this tournament. High-school treasurer-No report Registrar: Fall enrollment numbers were presented by Mark Johnson. There are applications outstanding and another registration date to approaching. At present: High School-36, Bantam-29, Peewee-38, Squirt-40, Mite-38, Tyke-40. Total enrolled skaters 215. MUSKETEER RELATIONS: Bill Yeakel of the Sioux City Musketeers was present and gave a report of what he would hope would occur this year. FIRST, youth hockey could be part of the Chuck-a-Puck each game. Gross revenues minus $50 for expenses with the balance going to SYHA. This program is conducted during the second intermission. Pucks are sold for $1 and there are approximately 250 to 350 per game sold. The winner gets a Musketeer Jersey and tickets to the next home game. The Musketeers are making this available 14 to 15 games and want our parents and/or skaters to sell the tickets. SYHA can have a banner by the table to promote our programs or activities. SECONDLY, during each home game, the Musketeers will have the SYHA feature player. The player will skate in warm-ups with the Musketeer team and be provided with a Jersey. Each player chosen will receive a T-shirt provided by Sports Source. There are 31 home games. THIRD, the year-end banquet will be held at the Outback Steakhouse with all proceeds, after expenses, going to SYHA. FOURTH, if requested, players will be assigned to SYHA teams to help in any manner deemed appropriate and to serve as liaison representatives. FIFTH, the Musketeers are willing to put on a one or two day clinic if needed or desired. SIXTH, the Musketeers will make available five to seven games when our Tyke and Mite skaters can skate during one of the game intermissions. Strachan and Yeakel are in charge of coordinating the players and games. Overall, several board members complimented the present Musketeer organization for their desire and efforts to help SYHA. All acknowledge this is a welcome change from the past Musketeer organization. Accordingly, we hope SYHA or its members will do anything to promote the Sioux City Musketeer hockey team and organization. EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE: a phone vote was taken to increase the amount approved for the video production costs from $1,100 to $1,500. The motion was approved by a majority of the executive committee. In addition, an ice users meeting took place with city staff and the Silver Blades Figure Skating Club. The meeting discussed ice usage and overall scheduling issues. At present, no changes affecting Siouxland youth hockey are anticipated. HOUSE LEAGUE: Sundlie reported all leagues have coordinators except for Peewees. The following coordinators were approved: TRAVEL LEAGUE: Hoffmeyer submitted the following coordinators/treasurer. Motion made by Hoffmeyer and seconded by Sundlie to approve those named. Motion passed. COMMUNICATION TEAM: Travel Team tryouts and selections were discussed. At several different age groups some of the skaters selected, omitted or the manner in which the coach conducted tryouts were subject to parent complaints and comments. For new members, it was mentioned we hear these types of complaints each year. No specific action was taken. Each year the coaches' committee discusses and stresses to the coaches to be fair in their selection process. MARKETING AND PUBLICITY: Buckmeier reported SYHA is producing a video for use at the Musketeer Hockey games and for public-service announcement use. In addition, approximately 6500 flyers are being prepared and distributed for the October 4th, 2001 supplemental registration. General discussion of other marketing and publicity took place. EQUIPMENT: Strachan reported there is a need for new goalie equipment at the younger age divisions. We need new Tyke and Mite goalie equipment. We need to repair some of our older equipment, purchase goalie sticks, etc. Motion made that Strachan can spend up to $450 total for the above items. Motion passed. REFEREE CLINIC: Mike McClennen, our house league referee in chief, has arranged for a referee clinic on September 29, 2001. All referees for the upcoming year are required to attend a clinic and pass a written test. SYHA will pay for any costs associated with putting on the clinic. INITIATION PROGRAM: Strachan reported he has all of the materials and will be setting up a clinic before the Associate level coaching clinic is held. Strachan reported and a general discussion took place concerning the coaching credentials needed for this year. NEW BUSINESS: Motion to adjourn. Motion passed. Respectfully submitted, |
