  Board of Directors Minutes of Regular Meeting — July 18, 2001

President Mike Moreland called the meeting to order.
Present: Maxine Buckmeier, Pam Harp, Duane Hoffmeyer, Marty Holmes, Mark Johnson, Deb Logsdon, Mike Moreland, Jamie Strachan, Bob Sundlie, Lisa Soole
Absent: Curtis McCline, Lynn Mills
Guest: Mark Jensen

Minutes for the June 20, 2001 meeting of the Board of Directors were reviewed. Motion by Sundlie and a second by Logsdon to approve the minutes as printed. Motion passed.

The Treasurer's Report was presented by Mark Johnson. Discussion was held of past due accounts. The Board reaffirmed that no one will be permitted, absent executive committee approval, to begin the 2001-02 season without being paid in full on all accounts with SYHA. Motion made by Sundlie and seconded by Buckmeier that the treasurer's report be approved as presented. Motion passed.

The Coaching Committee report was presented by Marty Holmes. Holmes explained the application, interview and selection process. The slate of 2001-02 coaches was presented. Discussion followed. Motion made by Soole, seconded by Sundlie to approve the forwarded slate. Motion passed. Approved coaches are as follows:

Tyke and Mite - Jeamie Strachan
Squirt A - Jeff Zyzda
Squirt B - Dan Holzrichter
PeeWee A - Dave LeGree
PeeWee B - Paul Kambach
Bantam A - Mike Bennett
Bantam B - T.J. Reinsch
High School - Jeff Gray

Assistants, if any, are selected by the designated coaches.

Player Development: Hoffmeyer told SYHA Session II underway. Northern Edge Elite will be starting soon with increased enrollment. Fall will include a goalie clinic and learn-to-skate clinics. Strachan will contact the Musketeers (Yeakel) to get their assistance and to help promote each of our programs.

Communication Team liaisons were designated:

Bantam - Pam Harp
PeeWee - Curtis McCline
Squirt - Maxine Buckmeier
Mite - Mark Johnson
Tyke - Bob Sundlie

Publicity and Marketing: Discussion on how to promote and recruit new skaters. Buckmeier will speak with Kim Kjelseth and/or Jan Poulson for ideas. If unavailable, Curt Stover was mentioned as someone who did similar job in the past for SYHA. Need to get signup information on the web and to Play It Again.

Equipment: Discussed that will Halverson's resignation, need travel team representative. Only 74 socks remain. Someone has received socks and not paid. Need to confirm if all travel jerseys are back. Soole will get list of what we should have. Strachan will prepare a list of what we do have. May change the locks.

Fund Raising, Greens: Logsdon discussed option and pre-order obligations. This is our major fundraiser. Motion was made and passed to leave selling price of items the same as last year. Discussed buy-out fee. Motion made by Sundlie and seconded by Soole to increase skater buy-out to $250. Motion passed.

Referees: Batcheller's officiating proposal was discussed. It is as follows:

Midwest League and SYHA Games and Tournaments
Junior Officials - $25.00 per game
Intermediate Officials - $32.00 per game
Senior Officials - $37.50 per game
**Games over 1.25 hours will be charged $10 per ¼ hour
**Most “finals” require 3 officials
**Excludes house league, Pancake Day and year-end tournament
**Senior officials are:  Tim, Mike and Bob

Sioux City Metros High School Hockey Season
3-man high school system: referee $75.00, linesmen (2) $40.00 per game
3-man jr. varsity system: referee $65.00, linesmen (2) $35.00 per game
2-man Midget (1.25 hour games) referee/linesman  $60 per game
3-man Midget (1.25 hour games) referee $50, Linesmen (2) $35 per game
**Any Midget game over 1.25 hours see 3-man high school rates.

After discussion, Buckmeier moved and seconded by Soole to approve:
$25.00 Junior Officials
$32.00 Intermediate Officials
$35.00 Senior Officials as determined by Batcheller

Motions passed. Further discussed if house league rates per game should be increased. Vote on this was tabled to determine the financial impact and need. Hoffmeyer mentioned the new 2001-02 rule changes are at usahockey.com and HockeyRefs.com. Batcheller has been notified and mailed a copy of this year's changes to all of last year's referees.

Midwest League: Jensen gave the guesstimate of schedule. Hoffmeyer will attend the 8/4/01 meeting @ 9:30 a.m. in Des Moines.

Tri-State: Moreland will attend the 8/4/01 meeting @ 1:30 p.m. in Des Moines.

Old Business: City Contract: Moreland reported this is in the final stages. Waiting for reply back on requested changes.

Rink Pledges: Moreland has balances from the city, but addresses were note included. He will get addresses and bill individuals/businesses.

Skater Recruitment: tabled

Benefit Event: Buckmeier reported the Police Assn.'s hockey benefit is progressing. It is likely to occur in October. The Musketeer benefit is going slower because of scheduling conflicts and most likely in Spring, 2002

Registration Sign Up: August 26 and 27 at the IBP Ice Center

New Business: Travel Coaches: Slate approved. See discussion above.

2001-02 Referee expenses: Batcheller slate approved as modified. See discussin above.

Halverson resignation: Holmes is filling the longer, Halverson term and there will be a 1-year (2002) opening which could be filled now or later. This was moved and passed.

Hoffmeyer reported those filling Iowa Tax returns may want to discuss with their tax preparer if a percentage of their hockey equipment is deductible under "Tuition and Textbook" credit. It mentions hockey equipment is eligible subject to a limitation of 25% of the first $1,000 paid per dependent in the 2000 tax year information. Check it out and make your determination if you qualify.
